Today is a recipe day! Gods willing the next time I make this my husband doesn't eat it all again. I was sort of looking forward to leftovers.
This is one of the most amazing casseroles I've ever made. It literally tastes like a McDonald's Cheeseburger. I cannot describe the awesomeness. After Sean finished his first helping, he said, and I quote, "So, we're having this every day now, right?!". I found this on the Taste of Home website, here is the link. I used a little less cheese and more mustard. This time, I have pictures of the whole process!
So here it is, the fabulous, amazing, cheeseburger casserole.
First, brown 1 lb ground beef and 1/4 cup onion, diced.
Next, add 1/4 of garlic dill pickle, dice, 1/2 cup of ketchup, 1/2 cup water and 1 to 1.5 Tbsp mustard. I personally have a small mustard addiction, so I used 1.5 Tbsp. Once you stir it up, it should look like the picture on the right.
Pour all into a 9x9 Casserole dish. This recipe is supposed to make 6 servings. To that, I say HA! You haven't seen my husband eat. This is 4 servings.
Next, you'll need an 8 oz tube of crescent rolls, enough cheese to fit in a layer in the casserole, about a Tbsp of milk, and sesame seeds. The recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of cheese, I didn't really think it needed that much. If you were grating cheese, this is about 3/4 cup. Layer the cheese over top of the beef mixture.
Then, you add the crescent roll as the crust. What I usually do is just mash the whole thing into a ball and roll it out with my rolling pin, but you can do what works best for you. Pinching the seams never really works for me, unfortunately. You also may be able to see that I did not roll it out to fit all the way up to the edges. I did this so there would be some steam escape, instead of slicing the top of my just-rolled dough. You can make slices for steam escape if you like, this is just my preference. Next, brush milk on the top, and add the sesame seeds. Then bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes.
And THIS is the finished product.
The bubbly cheesy goodness spilling out. This was so amazing. This is my favorite picture right now. Doesn't it even sort of look like a cheeseburger?!
Here is the ingredient list:
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped dill pickles
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup ketchup
1 - 1.5 tablespoon yellow mustard
1/8 teaspoon pepper
3/4 cups Cheddar cheese, sliced or grated (more if you want)
1 can 8 oz can Crescent Roll
1 Tbsp Milk
1 - 2 tablespoon sesame seeds
I hope your endeavors to make this turn out as awesome as ours did! This is definitely a make again meal for us.
Happy Cooking!
S.
This looks awesome! Ok,I am making it tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteIt IS AWESOME!!!!
DeleteHope you liked it!
ReplyDeleteMade it. Loved it. Really, really loved it.
ReplyDeletei made this for supper and it was delicious! i'm not a big fan of pickles, but used them anyways. will be making again :)
ReplyDeleteSo the pickles didnt overwhelm - I dont like pickles or mustard so was thinking of eliminating or cutting back
DeleteThis sounds amazing! Found it on Pinterest, will be making it soon!
ReplyDeleteMy whole house smells like a McD's cheeseburger ( in a good way) lolLooks and smells absolutely delicious!! Cant wait to dig in!!
ReplyDeleteI am making this right now! I found crescent dough sheets!!! So I did not have to pinch or roll! Can't wait to taste it!
ReplyDeleteI want to make this tonight!!! Movie and Casserole night yipeeee!!!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I love McDonald's and I cannot WAIT to make this!
ReplyDeleteJust made this and it was a huge hit with my family of 5!! I used ground turkey but that's just cause we switched 2 yrs ago cause it's healthier and cheaper. Super easy and tasty!!
ReplyDeleteanyone who thinks turkey wont taste the same, just add a little beef boullion and or Worcestershire sauce to the turkey meat.
DeleteYum. I can't wait to try it!!
ReplyDeleteIm making this now im so excited :)
ReplyDeleteIm making this now im so excited!
ReplyDeleteFound this on pinterest and so glad I did! I made it last night and it was delicious. My boyfriend, who doesn't like casseroles, and was complaining before dinner (saying he would rather just have a cheeseburger) LOVED this! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThis is very good.. my son and sister-in-law request this regularly :)
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking crumbled bacon under the cheese would add an extra layer of awesome!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea!! : ) yum!!
DeleteI HAVE THIS IN THE OVEN RIGHT NOW AND I PUT BACON IN MINE ILL LET YA KNOW :) Sorry caps ugh
DeleteMaking this tonight. Needed something easy and that everyone would like. This would fit the bill. Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteI feed 6. 4 kids, 2 adults. I will Definately have to use more meat. Can't you just eye the ingredients? Does it all have to be measured? Lol
ReplyDeleteThis was the best casserole yet! Thanks for sharing. I loved it. Left the pickles out because my husband doesnt like them, but my son and I cut up our pickles and tossed them in after. AMAZING!!!! -- Kim K
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to do the same if I make this for my husband & I. He hates pickles with a passion, but I looooove them.
DeleteOMG!! This was soooo good!! I will admit, I was a little hesitant when I read that it tasted just like a cheeseburger- but it really did!! The only thing I would change is add more cheese. I just used deli sandwich cheese, so next time either have her slice it thicker or add double. It just completely comes together with all the ingredients! I agree- serving size in our household (by the time my husband got done with it 2 serving sizes :( didnt even have any to take to work). Will definately be makeing again!
ReplyDeletethanks for this recipe ( i found it on pinterest) this ISSS very yummy ... i agree tastes just like a fast food cheeseburger (: however i did change it a little haha i added a bottom crust, which i brushed with milk and pre baked for 10mins at 350 and allowed to cool for a bit before adding the rest of the ingredients and the top crust ... i find that anytime you make a casserole type recipe that calls for a bottom crust of any kind doing a pre bake always makes it turn out better ...no chance of a not completely done and/or soggy crust! this will def be a regular inmy house now! thanks again!
ReplyDeleteNothing tastes like a CB from McD's. I am so making this. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMaking this for dinner tonight.
ReplyDeleteFantastic recipe! It is officially my hubby's favorite. Thanks!!!
ReplyDeletei am making this for dinner tonight. already have the ingredients ready. i can't wait :)
ReplyDeleteI made this for my family. I personally didn't like it and neither did my 2 sisters. But my niece, mom, dad, and boyfriend loved it. They said they didn't like the first couple of bites but it got better afterwards. I personally won't be making it again.
ReplyDeleteDo you HAVE to use garlic dill pickles? Or can you use another type? I generally prefer the Kosher Dill but dont want to change the flavor of the recipe.
ReplyDeleteJust put it in the oven. Hope it tastes as good as it looks/smells!
ReplyDeletemaking this for dinner tonight can't wait to taste it looks yummy
ReplyDeleteFound this recipe on pinterest and will be trying this week.
ReplyDeleteWhat percent lean/fat did you use for the beef? For most of my casseroles I like 93%/7% but for my meatloaf and burgers I usually do 85%/15% so I didn't know which might work better. Thanks!
I didnt have any crescent rolls( and there is ice and snow on the. Roads) I used Grands bicuits sliced in half on the bbottom and on the top. Really really good. next time I think I will cook the bottom layer of biscuits for a few minutes before I add the meat mixture, and use about 1/2 the water. otherwise it was wonderful
ReplyDeleteCan you make this with any other topping unable to get crescent rolls in the UK thanks Cathy
ReplyDeleteTotally making this tonight! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI make something called hamburger casserole, it's close to this just easier, kids love it.
ReplyDelete1 pound hamburger,
1 med onion, brown
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1 1/2 cans cheap banner biscuits or similar
16 slices of american cheese kraft or similar brand
salt & pepper to taste
Brown hamburger and onion together if you have a iron skillet you only need one pan.
stir in tomato paste, layer cheese then top with the biscuits bake at 400 until biscuits are brown on top.
never met a kid that didn't love this.
This looks good I may have to try a small one for myself first my nieces and nephews are very picky about what they eat maybe I will let them taste it
ReplyDeletewe made this a few nights ago for dinner. we skipped the pickles since no one in my house likes them. instead of mashing the dough up into one ball, i split it into two sheets and used one for the bottom crust and one for the top. beyond that i did the exact same thing. everyone LOVED it. this is the 3rd time we've made this and i rarely get special requests. i would say this one is a win! thank you!
ReplyDeleteAll 3 of my kids loved this, and that is saying something. They are so picky.
ReplyDeleteThis was Ahhh-mazing! My whole family, including my 5yr old and 3yr old loved this! It is on our regularly made meals list and, after sharing it with my parents, it's on there's too :) Thanks so much for sharing this recipe!
ReplyDeleteMade this for my family. They loved it. Making it again tonight. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMade this and we Loved it. although I add a little more onion and pickles. And My husband ate most of it. thanks for the great recipe.
ReplyDeleteC est une recette delicieuse et ca ete un hit dans ma famille a refaire c est sure voici le resultat ;) That was amazing !!!!!
ReplyDeleteNote to anyone-remember to put cheese on before crescent rolls. I forgot the cheese and was tearing off the milky melted crescent rolls and trying to arrange them back on which didn't happen. Either way it is awesome!
ReplyDeleteI came across this recipe on Pinterest and it had my husbands name written all over it!!!mso, I'm making this for dinner tonight..can't wait to try it.
ReplyDeleteI made this today. It is good, but tastes more like sloppy joes than McDonald's hamburgers. It's quick and easy and I will probably make it again.
ReplyDeleteI am making this with homemade crescent dough.
ReplyDeletePurchase cresant roll sheet,much easier
ReplyDeletethis has become one of my go-to recipes. Making it again tonight!
ReplyDeleteDo u drain the hamburger
ReplyDeleteDoes it make a difference when you brush the top with milk instead of egg?? Most bread/pastry recipes I see call for egg wash on the top to brown it, so I was surprised when I read to use milk.
ReplyDeleteAnyone found a gluten free version?
ReplyDeleteCan also use the manwhich bold very good flavor
ReplyDeleteMade this and my husband and I love it. Tastes just like a cheeseburger. Wow! Thanks so much for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteMade this twice, husband and I love it Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteMade it tonight and it wasn’t bad. I would probably add less ketchup, more pickles or pickle juice, and salt. Overall good! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI made it twice now. We love it.
