Did YOU know that you don't need to go to the Emergency Room if you have a flu or cold? Really? If you have the flu, you can't do anything about it? If I have a cold, one should just stay home, drink some OJ and get over oneself? WOW what a revelation.
I'm so absolutely disgusted with the amount of people who go to the Emergency Room for stupid reasons. This is one of the big issues with "free" health-care; the people who really do need the help have to wait hours upon hours to get it. What brought this up, you ask? My mother is in the hospital. Again. It's nothing serious, although it does cause her lot of pain. If anyone can spare some healing energy for her though, it would be greatly appreciated. She had to wait more than 4 and half hours yesterday to even get in to see anyone, never mind how long it took to be admitted afterward. And do you want to know the really bad thing?
That is a considerably short wait for our hospital.
Maybe it's longer where you are from, maybe you're thinking, "Four hours? That's nothing!" but wouldn't it be great not to have to wait 4 hours? Or 8 hours? Or more? It should be like this: Flu or cold? Stay home. Minor pain, nothing broken? Walk in clinic. Lots of pain, Something Broken, lots of blood? Emergency Room. There we go. Less wait time.
Too bad it isn't really that easy.
What are the wait times like at your Emergency Room? Do you agree with my reasons or not?
I know the er all to well. I've seen people just waiting there and look like nothing is wrong, people will use any excuse to get out of work. ugh
ReplyDeleteIf you go to either one of our big hospitals it can take any where from 1 to 8 hours to get in. The one I go to are pretty good about getting you in right away, maybe it's because they know me there. lol! Seriously, it can be a nightmare. You're better off calling 911 and being taken in by ambulance if you need immediate treatment, I've never done this, but it is quicker.
I hope all goes well with your mom! Take care!
Thanks Lisa! So far things are going okay, she is in a lot less pain than she was. They are discussing surgery for her, but not for a little while yet.
ReplyDeleteSounds like our hospital waits are about the same, unfortunately. Definitely immediate care should be ambulance, having to pay the extra for it or not. I've only needed to call 911 once, and for the cops, but the response time was really impressive.
